New Medina Hospice Center Opens in Granger

Partner William B. Young was instrumental in HMC's (Hospice of Medina County) recent opening of Medina County's only dedicated, freestanding inpatient center for end-of-life care.  The 33,000-square-foot facility cost $9 million and includes a full-service bereavement center with space for programs and workshops, including a designated area for the bereavement needs of children, a chapel, hospitality and lounging areas for families, and office space for clinical hospice and home health care staff as well as administrative offices.

Bill has been on HMC's board of Directors over twelve years and was Board President when the plan to build a freestanding facility was adopted.  Through his years of experience with local government representation and knowledge of suitable building sites, Bill forged a cooperative alliance with Medina County Park District Director Tom James to achieve a "win-win" result.  The Park District had recently received a donation of over 100 acres in Granger Townership.  HMC acquired five acres of frontage from that donation in exchange for which the parks received sufficient funding to develop a new park on Windfall Road.  Both parties were assured that no distracting commercial enterprises would become unwanted neighbors and will work together to tie the park's trails into HMC's facility.

Bill further represented HMC when it secured construction and long-term financing from a unique combination of United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program and Western Reserve Bank loans.

"I am pleased to have been intimately involved in this project and to have worked cooperatively with the Medina County Park District to achieve this result for HMC and the part district," Bill stated.  "The opportunity to work within a unique paradigm of partnerships with both our client and various government and private entities to provide the best end-of-life care has been rewarding on multiple fronts."
